Santa Rosa Plane Crash Victims Identified

Associated Press
SANTA ROSA — The five people killed when a single-engine airplane crashed in eastern New Mexico were members of a Gilbert, Ariz., family.
The crash killed 42-year-old Ules Pitts Jr., 41-year-old Marian Pitts, 18-year-old Jessica Pitts, 16-year-old Jennifer Pitts and 13-year-old Jeremy Pitts.
Ules Pitts Sr. said Monday the five were traveling to Chicago to visit family when the crash occurred Sunday.
He said his son had made the flight to Chicago several times and was an experienced pilot.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, Roland Herwig, says the Cessna 206 took off about 1 p.m. from the Route 66 Airport at Santa Rosa and crashed almost immediately.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board offices in Arlington, Texas, and Denver were sent to the scene Monday to determine the cause of the crash.
