Possible Gray Wolf Seen on Northern NM Ranch

Associated Press
SANTA FE — A possible gray wolf has been sighted on a large ranch in northern New Mexico and government biologists have tried to capture it.
The animal was first spotted about a month ago and raises the possibility that a wolf has migrated into New Mexico from the northern Rockies. Colorado officials have had reports of sightings of wolves believed to have migrated from the north in recent years.
The animal was seen several times and photographed on Vermejo Park Ranch, owned by media mogul Ted Turner.
Mike Phillips, executive director of the Turner Endangered Species Fund in Bozeman, Mont., says the animal looks like a wolf based on the photographs. But that hasn't been confirmed because the animal hasn't been captured to obtain genetic material.
The ranch near Raton covers more than 900 square miles near the New Mexico-Colorado border.
