Long Resigns As Head Football Coach

  Rocky Long, the University of New Mexico's head football coach for the past 11 seasons, resigned today. Long finished his career at New Mexico with a record of 65-69, including five bowl appearances. Long resigns as UNM's all-time winningest coach, but this past season's record of 4-8 was his worst since 1998.

  FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Senior tailback Rodney Ferguson was referring to a first-half gaffe that left UNM without any points after time expired during Saturday's 20-6 season-ending loss to Colorado State, but he also was summarizing the 2008 University of New Mexico football season.
